Freeview reception
I have lost count of the time that somebody says, and I paraphrase, ‘my digital pictures are perfect, I’ve fitted a booster but it still get coloured squares or freezes?.’
Analogue reception has the great luxury that a detailed analysis of reception can be made just looking at the picture. Digital pictures are not that generous. They give good quality pictures until they fail, but you can’t tell when they will fail just by looking at the picture. If you have had problems with you digital pictures and you fit a booster, without making measurements of the signal how do you know what you have achieved. The end result of the time and money spent is just a guess that an improvement will have been made.
Information is King. You need to know what data you are picking up, how corrupt that data is and what safety margins you have. None of this information is available by just looking at the digital picture. You need measurements, up to 7 for each mux and normally there are six muxes per transmitter and in areas that have undergone digital switch over their is also the HD mux, which requires an HD analyzer and at over £4000 you don’t see many about.
Fit a booster but don’t be surprised if you still have problems. I can’t speak for other firms but FT Solutions.TV don’t have a call out fee, we will test you signal and advise on the best course of action and price accordingly. It up to you to act on the information, but remember information is King and with information you can make the right decision.
